Malang, October 4, 2026 — The Malang Gastroenterohepatology Update 15 (MGU 15) 2026 successfully concluded on Sunday, October 4, following three days of scientific sessions, practical workshops, clinical discussions, and professional exchange held across three venues in Malang and Batu.
Organized by the Gastroenterology Division of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya–Saiful Anwar General Hospital (FKUB-RSSA), with Kusuma Enterprise entrusted with the event management and implementation, MGU 15 2026 brought together gastroenterology and hepatology professionals, speakers, and participants from various regions in Indonesia and Thailand.
Held from October 2–4, 2026, the event featured a series of interconnected programs designed to combine scientific updates with practical clinical learning. The activities took place at Atria Hotel & Convention Malang, Karsa Husada Hospital, and Javanine Resto, each hosting different components of the three-day program.
Across the three-day event, MGU 15 2026 presented a diverse program comprising advanced and intermediate workshops, hands-on sessions, scientific symposia, international lectures, clinical discussions, professional gatherings, an organizational session, and the MGU Award.
Three Venues, One Integrated Scientific Program
The first day of MGU 15 2026, Friday, October 2, opened with parallel activities at two different venues.
At Karsa Husada Hospital, the Advanced Workshop focused on “Mastering Advanced Endoscopy: Practical Approaches to Complex Pancreatobiliary Disorders.” The program combined lectures, case discussions, and hands-on sessions covering EUS and ERCP. The faculty included Prof. Thawee Ratanachu-Ek, MD, FRCST (Thailand); Hasan Maulahela, MD, PhD, FACG, FASGE (Jakarta); Boqi Pratomo Wibowo, MD, PhD (Malang); and Syifa Mustika, MD, PhD (Malang).
The workshop addressed topics ranging from therapeutic EUS and complex biliary intervention to nursing care in EUS and ERCP, followed by a Case Parade and practical hands-on sessions. The structure reflected MGU 15's emphasis on connecting scientific knowledge with practical clinical skills.
Meanwhile, the Malang Gastroenterology Club was held at Javanine Resto on the evening of October 2. The session featured Prof. Thawee Ratanachu-Ek, MD, FRCST, who delivered a lecture entitled “From Diagnosis to Intervention: How EUS and ERCP Change Pancreatobiliary Journey.” The session was followed by a discussion and case-sharing segment.
The combination of practical workshop activities and a more informal professional discussion created an opening day that connected technical learning with broader clinical exchange.
Atria Hotel Hosts the Main Scientific Program
The main scientific program continued at Atria Hotel & Convention Malang on October 3 and 4.
On Saturday, October 3, the program began with a Plenary Lecture by Supriono, MD, PhD, FACG, followed by an International Lecture by Prof. Thawee Ratanachu-Ek, MD, FRCST, focusing on advances in EUS and ERCP in modern pancreatobiliary care.
The opening ceremony subsequently featured remarks from Boqi Pratomo Wibowo, MD, PhD, Nur Samsu, MD, PhD, and Supriono, MD, PhD, FACG, before MGU 2026 was formally opened through the ceremonial gong striking.
The scientific program then continued through a series of symposia addressing contemporary issues in gastroenterology and hepatology. Among the topics discussed were colorectal cancer and colonoscopy optimization, the prognostic role of albumin, ulcerative colitis management, IBD care, and advances in acid suppression.
Speakers and faculty came from Malang, Jakarta, Makassar, Denpasar, Surabaya, and Thailand, bringing together perspectives from different clinical and professional settings.
Strengthening Clinical Exchange Through Scientific Dialogue
Beyond the number of sessions and speakers, MGU 15 2026 emphasized the importance of scientific dialogue as part of continuous professional development.
Through lectures, panel discussions, hands-on workshops, and case-sharing sessions, participants were given opportunities to explore developments in gastroenterology and hepatology from both theoretical and practical perspectives.
Supriono, MD, PhD, FACG, who served as Course Director of the Intermediate Workshop and was also involved as a speaker and chairperson across several sessions, emphasized the importance of creating a forum where scientific developments can be connected with clinical practice.
“Scientific meetings such as MGU provide an important space for healthcare professionals to continue learning, exchange experiences, and discuss how new developments can be applied in clinical practice. The goal is not only to update knowledge, but also to strengthen the quality of care for patients.”
The perspective was also reflected in the involvement of international faculty throughout the program. Prof. Thawee Ratanachu-Ek, MD, FRCST, contributed to both the Advanced Workshop and the scientific program at Atria Hotel, providing an international perspective on the development of EUS, ERCP, and pancreatobiliary care.
Meanwhile, Boqi Pratomo Wibowo, MD, PhD, who delivered remarks during the opening ceremony and participated in several scientific sessions, highlighted the value of professional collaboration in advancing gastroenterology practice.
“The strength of a scientific forum lies in the exchange of knowledge and experience among professionals. By bringing together clinicians, experts, and colleagues from different backgrounds, MGU creates an opportunity to learn from one another and strengthen our shared commitment to advancing gastroenterology care.”
Continuing the Scientific Program into the Final Day
The scientific program continued on Sunday, October 4, with the MGU Award Final Round, followed by the Harijono Achmad Lecture and a series of scientific and lunch symposia.
The day's scientific sessions explored a broad range of topics, including gastrointestinal mucosal protection, the gut–liver axis, hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal management, liver disease, GERD, and Helicobacter pylori eradication. Speakers included experts from Malang, Denpasar, Makassar, Jakarta, and Surabaya.
The afternoon sessions continued with discussions on hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal management, chronic constipation, GERD treatment, and H. pylori eradication, bringing the scientific program toward its conclusion.
MGU Award Marks the Closing of MGU 15 2026
The three-day program concluded with the MGU Award Winner Announcement and Closing Ceremony on Sunday afternoon.
Following the final scientific symposium, the organizers announced the MGU Award winner and concluded the event with closing remarks and a video recap of the second day. The closing ceremony formally marked the end of the MGU 15 2026 program at Atria Hotel & Convention Malang.
For Kusuma Enterprise, the implementation of MGU 15 2026 represents part of its commitment to supporting professional and knowledge-based events through structured event management and execution.
By bringing together multiple venues, scientific sessions, practical workshops, and professional networking activities within one integrated program, MGU 15 2026 provided a platform for participants to engage with current developments in gastroenterology and hepatology while exchanging experiences across institutions and regions.
The conclusion of MGU 15 2026 therefore marked not only the end of a three-day event, but also another opportunity for the gastroenterology and hepatology community to strengthen professional connections, share knowledge, and continue advancing clinical practice.
MGU 15 2026 concluded with a shared commitment to continuous learning and collaboration—connecting scientific development, practical experience, and professional exchange in the pursuit of better gastroenterology and hepatology care. (htw)
