Malang, October 4, 2026 — The Malang Gastroenterohepatology Update 15 (MGU 15) 2026 concluded on Sunday, October 4, at Atria Hotel & Convention Malang, bringing its three-day program to a close with a full day of scientific sessions, professional recognition, and the MGU Award ceremony.
Organized by the Gastroenterology Division of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya–Saiful Anwar General Hospital (FKUB-RSSA), with Kusuma Enterprise entrusted with the event management and implementation, MGU 15 2026 brought together gastroenterology and hepatology professionals from Indonesia and abroad through a combination of scientific learning, practical workshops, discussions, and professional exchange.
The final day continued the scientific program with the MGU Award Final Round, Harijono Achmad Lecture, Scientific Symposia, Lunch Symposium, and the MGU Award Winner Announcement and Closing Ceremony.
A Final Day of Scientific Updates
The fourth day of the overall MGU 15 program began with the MGU Award Final Round, held from 08.00 to 09.00. The session was dedicated to the final stage of the award process before the winners were announced later in the day.
The scientific program then continued with the Harijono Achmad Lecture, delivered by Hariadi Moeljosoeodirdjo, MD (Malang). The lecture, entitled “Beyond Acid Suppression: Reframing Gastric Mucosal Protection Through Cytoprotection,” provided a clinical perspective on gastrointestinal mucosal protection.
This was followed by Scientific Symposium 4, themed “Precision GI Care: From Acid Suppression to Gut–Liver Axis Protection.” Chaired by Boqi Pratomo Wibowo, MD, PhD (Malang), the symposium featured Prof. I Dewa Nyoman Wibawa, MD, PhD, FACG (Denpasar) and Fardah Akil, MD, PhD (Makassar). The discussions covered acid suppression, treatment safety, gut homeostasis, and hepatic axis protection.
The range of topics reflected the increasingly integrated nature of gastroenterology and hepatology care, connecting gastrointestinal management with liver health, therapeutic safety, and broader clinical outcomes.
Exploring Contemporary Approaches to GI and Hepatobiliary Care
The scientific program continued through the Lunch Symposium 2, which focused on “Updated Consensus in GI Care from Endoscopy Readiness to Liver Protection.”
The session was chaired by Supriono, MD, PhD, FACG, with presentations by Boqi Pratomo Wibowo, MD, PhD, who discussed bowel preparation as a foundation of diagnostic quality, and Juferdy Kurniawan, MD, PhD (Jakarta), who addressed bile flow and hepatocyte protection in cholestatic and hepatocellular injury.
The program then moved into Scientific Symposium 5, themed “Beyond Conventional Therapy: New Perspectives in Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Protection.”
The session featured Supriono, MD, PhD, FACG, discussing the clinical role of rebamipide in gastrointestinal mucosal protection, and Prof. I Dewa Nyoman Wibawa, MD, PhD, FACG, presenting on the potential of multicompound phytopharmacy in the management of liver disease.
Together, the sessions provided participants with a broad view of current approaches to gastrointestinal and hepatic protection, while maintaining a focus on how scientific developments can inform clinical decision-making.
From Evidence to Clinical Practice
The afternoon sessions continued with Scientific Symposium 6, themed “Beyond Conventional Care: New Perspectives in Hepatobiliary and Gastrointestinal Management.”
Chaired by Syifa Mustika, MD, PhD (Malang), the symposium featured Poernomo Boedi Setiawan, MD (Surabaya) and Supriono, MD, PhD, FACG (Malang). Topics included the application of evidence in HCC treatment and new perspectives on chronic constipation and bile acid modulation.
The final scientific session of MGU 15 2026 was Scientific Symposium 7, which addressed “Redefining Acid-Related Disease Management with Vonoprazan: From GERD Control to Optimized Helicobacter pylori Eradication.”
The session featured Boqi Pratomo Wibowo, MD, PhD and Syifa Mustika, MD, PhD, who discussed GERD treatment and Helicobacter pylori eradication through vonoprazan-based approaches.
The sequence of sessions brought the scientific component of MGU 15 2026 to a close with a broad spectrum of topics spanning gastrointestinal mucosal protection, hepatobiliary management, liver disease, GERD, and H. pylori eradication.
Strengthening Continuous Professional Development
The breadth of the final day's program reflected the role of MGU 15 2026 as a forum for continuous professional development, where scientific updates could be discussed alongside clinical experience and professional perspectives.
Boqi Pratomo Wibowo, MD, PhD, who served as chairperson in several scientific sessions throughout the program and was also involved in the opening of MGU 15, emphasized the importance of sustained scientific exchange among healthcare professionals.
“Continuous professional development requires more than keeping up with new information. It also requires opportunities to discuss evidence, exchange clinical experience, and learn from colleagues. Scientific forums such as MGU provide an important space for that process to take place.”
The same spirit was reflected in the broad participation of speakers from different regions and the presence of international faculty throughout the MGU 15 program.
For Supriono, MD, PhD, FACG, MGU serves as a meeting point between scientific updates, clinical practice, and professional networking.
“MGU brings together scientific updates, clinical perspectives, and professional interaction in one forum. This combination allows participants not only to learn about developments in gastroenterology and hepatology, but also to exchange experiences and build professional connections that can continue beyond the event.”
Recognizing Scientific Achievement Through the MGU Award
In addition to its scientific program, the final day also provided a moment of recognition through the MGU Award.
The award process began with the MGU Award Final Round in the morning, followed by the announcement of the winners during the closing ceremony in the afternoon. The program schedule provided for the announcement of the first, second, and third-place winners, as well as the Favorite Award.
The award formed part of the broader academic character of MGU 15 2026, recognizing scientific participation and achievement within the event while providing additional motivation for participants to engage actively in the academic program.
MGU 15 2026 Comes to a Close
The MGU Award Winner Announcement and Closing Ceremony took place from 16.00 to 16.30, bringing the three-day MGU 15 2026 program to its formal conclusion.
The closing session included the announcement of the MGU Award winner, closing remarks from the organizing committee, and a video recap of the event before the MC officially concluded the entire MGU 2026 program.
The conclusion marked the end of a program that had brought together different forms of scientific and professional engagement across three venues. From the practical Advanced Workshop at Karsa Husada Hospital, to the professional gathering at Javanine Resto, and the main scientific program at Atria Hotel & Convention Malang, MGU 15 2026 connected practical learning, scientific discussion, and professional exchange within one integrated event.
For Kusuma Enterprise, supporting the implementation of MGU 15 2026 was part of its commitment to delivering professionally managed knowledge-based and scientific events. The three-day program required coordination across multiple venues, diverse session formats, international and national speakers, and a comprehensive scientific agenda.
With the closing ceremony at Atria Hotel & Convention Malang, the Malang Gastroenterohepatology Update 15 (MGU 15) 2026 officially concluded.
More than marking the end of a three-day event, MGU 15 2026 left participants with an opportunity to continue the exchange of knowledge and experience beyond the meeting itself—strengthening the connection between scientific evidence, clinical practice, and professional collaboration in gastroenterology and hepatology.
